Module 2 - Case

Recruitment of Applicants

Assignment Overview

Before starting this assignment, be sure that you are familiar with what is meant by “critical thinking.”

Critical thinking is one of the five key rubric criteria by which your assignments are graded. Therefore, you are expected to demonstrate evidence of critical thinking in all assignments. For an overview of critical thinking, read the Altun and Yildirim journal article:

Altun, E., & Yildirim, N. (2023). What does critical thinking mean? examination of pre-service teachers’ cognitive structures and definitions for critical thinking. Thinking Skills and Creativity, 49, 101367. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.tsc.2023.101367 2p

Examples of Ways to Source Job Candidates

Every Internet user has access to platforms which executive search consultants or recruiters could once only have dreamed of. Many people talk about LinkedIn—a social network platform where millions of users can display their CVs, preferences, strengths, and professional contacts. This information is accessible to anyone.

Although LinkedIn is definitely the most commonly used platform for social community recruiting, we shouldn’t forget about other social media platforms. Twitter, forums, and blogs in particular provide interesting options for finding promising candidates. Twitter is still underrated as a candidate search tool. All of the more common social media platforms today are now sources for new job applicants, too, including Facebook, TikTok, Snap Chat, and Instagram.

Case Assignment

Recruitment Strategies for Organizational Growth and Success

Every company must have a recruitment strategy because it is critical to their growth. The right recruitment strategy influences the quality of new hires; it can increase a company’s reputation; and, it can increase the company’s ability to achieve its goals. This case assignment examines the fictional organization “21st Century Technology Solutions” (“21CTS”), a Wisconsin-based mid-sized technology firm, as it circumnavigates the challenges of selecting an effective recruitment strategy for future growth.

The 21CTS workforce of 150 employees specializes in AI software development and IT consulting services. The company saw rapid growth over the past two years and has plans to expand its workforce by 15% within the next 18 months. The workforce expansion is driven by increasing client demand, especially for roles in AI technology. However, the company faces a few tough challenges, the most significant of which is a competitive job market that has a shortage of qualified candidates from the local talent pool.

At this point, 21CTS faces four major challenges: attracting top talent, retention issues, incorporating DEI concepts, and limited resources for additional employees. Since funds are limited, it is especially important that their hires are perfect for the company.

To address these four challenges, 21CTS’ HR team identified six potential recruitment strategies. It is hoped that the selection process will pinpoint the top strategy that is more likely to provide the most cost-effective hiring process: Internal Recruitment, Employee Referral Programs, Campus Recruitment, Social Media Recruiting, Partnership with Niche Job Boards, and Outsourcing Recruitment.
