Overview
Curriculum leaders play an essential role in ensuring that educational programs and events are both effective and equitable. By collaborating with and advocating for all stakeholders in an inclusive and ethical way, leaders can ensure that the needs and perspectives of students, teachers, parents, and the community are aligned and respected. This approach enhances trust, cooperation, and support to uphold a learning environment that promotes student success.
As part of Back to School night, each grade level or department at your school has been asked to prepare a booth for families to visit that shares information about the curriculum. In addition, the administrative team has decided this would be an opportunity to include community partners that can offer support services to families. Previously, attendance at this event has been minimal, so the administration has stressed the importance of sparking interest prior to the event. As the curriculum leader, you have been given the responsibility of planning and coordinating this event.
Part 1: Digital Flyer
Considering your current or future professional setting, create a 1-2 page digital flyer for the Back to School event that will be sent to families and dispersed within the community. Include the following in your flyer:
- The purpose of the Back to School night and how it promotes student success.
- A description of the types of booths teachers will be setting up, including what families will learn about the upcoming school year.
- Research and provide information on at least three outside vendors that will be at the event and how their services support students and families within your community.
Part 2: Social Media Post
In addition to the digital flyer, prepare a 2-3 minute video speaking to the event that can be shared on the school’s social media pages and website. Rather than reading the flyer, use the video as an opportunity to introduce yourself and generate excitement for the event to increase attendance.
Part 3: Reflection
After completing the video, write a 150-300 word reflection assessing how your own personal biases can play a role when creating relevant and ethical learning experiences, particularly when families or communities are involved. Justify how your Back to School night promotes inclusivity for all families within your community.

If you upload your video to YouTube, select the “unlisted” option. Ensure that others can access and view your linked video prior to submitting the assignment.
Remember, video and audio quality are important and should be taken into consideration. Be sure your video is filmed with sufficient lighting, and the volume is adequate for viewers to hear. Intonation, expression, proper speech, and professional attire are expected.
While APA Style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
