Reflection Lab Part 3

Overview

  1. Reflections on Future Health. (36 points)

Refer to Chapter 18, and these previous assignments: Blood glucose, Blood Lipids, Body Composition, and Iron.

Citations are required from the current course textbook Understanding Nutrition, 17th edition. No other textbooks should be used.

If AI or plagiarism is suspected, the student will receive zero points and will be asked to meet with the professor to discuss each question and where they found the information.

  1. Based on your current lifestyle and nutrition intake patterns, are there any potential illnesses, chronic diseases, or digestive issues you may be at risk for? If you currently follow dietary guidelines and have no risk factors, see the bullet points below. This question must be answered.
  2. Consider how risk factors may place you at higher risk for disease or illnesses 10-20 years from now.
  3. The response must identify three possible specific chronic diseases in relation to your nutrition patterns and specific nutrient intake(s) for each specific chronic disease.
  4. This also can include how practicing nutrition habits that promote health could be associated with decreasing risk of chronic disease.
  5. For each chronic disease or illness, list nutrition factors related to the diseases and how your diet and lifestyle may be associated with the disease. Include in-text citations. Review chapter 18 for information related to chronic disease.
  • For example, discuss on how your nutrient intakes may relate to the risk factors for heart disease and other chronic disease states.
  • This includes sodium intake, fat intake, cholesterol intake, vitamin and mineral intake and more. Also include other factors which may be associated with chronic disease, since nutrition is just one factor.
  • If you are an individual who meets all dietary guidelines with nutrient dense foods and follows recommended guidelines, you need to still answer this question. Describe how your diet/lifestyle will be helpful in preventing risk for disease states.
  • The answer should include at least three paragraphs (with at least six sentences each) with appropriate citations.
  1. Action steps. After reflecting on what you have learned over the semester about your own health and dietary habits (nutrient density of diet, lifestyle), list three measurable action steps you can take to improve or continually maintain habits that reflect reduced risk of chronic disease. (10 points)

These steps should be behavior based, not physiological (not weight or specific lab values).
