INSTRUCTIONS
You must show your GRST 501 instructor that you have received a full OWC review of your
paper and you must make a final, improved revision of your paper to pass the class. You must
significantly improve the grading rubric score that you earned on your draft.
The Course Paper Grading Rubric will be used to score the course paper to show
improvement from the Course Paper: Draft Assignment; however, you will earn points for this
assignment by completing all the requirements for this assignment. If you do not complete all
requirements on this assignment, you will not earn any points.
Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.
*You must submit your completed draft to your GRST 501 instructor and to the Online Writing
Center (OWC) as Word docs. You must show your GRST instructor that you have received a
full OWC review (not a targeted review) of your paper. Then, you must make a final, improved
revision of your paper to pass the course. You must improve the grading rubric score that you
earn on your draft submission. You might be pressed for time, so remember that though feedback
from the OWC normally takes 48–72 hours, when you submit your draft to the OWC, the
feedback often takes one week. This means that once you successfully submit your paper for a
full review, you will receive it back within one week. Feedback from your GRST 501 instructor
also takes about a week. Therefore, your completed draft is due at least by Module 5: Week 5.
To pass, plan to submit your draft before or during Module 4: Week 4 of this course.
Note: If you do not have a paper fitting GRST 501 requirements due in another course, you will
need to write an original course paper. Choose a narrowed, controversial topic in your field that
you are interested in researching or something you know you'll have to write about in a future
course. Look through the Course Guides Graduate link located on the Course Paper:
Approval Form Assignment page under the Course Paper: Approval Form Resources. Find
your current or upcoming courses and read through the learning outcomes and assignments to see
if you can get an idea for a narrowed research topic about something a bit controversial in your
field. Or you might find a research idea within the reading you do in your other course. Then
what you write for this course will not be wasted and can be useful learning for a current or
future course—a foundation to build upon that gets you familiar with a certain aspect of your
chosen career path. If you still have trouble coming up with a topic after following this advice, e-
mail your GRST 501 instructor for more insight into possible topics for a course paper. In terms
of paper requirements, always defer to the specific directions given by your primary
professor who is assigning the paper when the time comes to submit to your other course.
Carefully following your professor's assignment instructions is of paramount importance so that
you will not lose points for failing to follow directions. However, in order to meet GRST 501
Course Paper requirements, students may need to modify the assignment for submission to
GRST, so be sure to observe both sets of requirements to satisfy the objectives of both
