Adaptations in Mathematics Curriculum for Students with IEPs MMS 580

Overview

Collaboration with general education teachers plays a vital role in creating an inclusive learning environment. A crucial aspect of this collaboration involves assisting teachers in differentiating instruction for students with exceptionalities. Recognizing that every student is unique, with individual strengths and needs, it becomes imperative to employ appropriate strategies and technology to cater to diverse needs within all aspects of a lesson. By doing so, we ensure that each student can meaningfully engage with the content.

In this assignment, use a lesson plan and differentiate that plan for five students on your caseload.

Use the attached “Lesson Plan,” “Case Studies,” and the “Modification of Lesson Plan” template to complete the following:

  1. Refer to the provided third-grade math lesson plan and the accompanying case studies describing the five students receiving special education services.
  2. Plan how to differentiate for each student within each section of the lesson plan: Means of Representation, Means of Engagement, and Means of Expression and Extension/Homework.
  3. Justify how your differentiation is tailored specifically to the needs of each student, taking into consideration their present level of performance, strengths, and needs.
  4. Incorporate evidence-based instructional strategies, resources, and/or appropriate technology to support each student's meaningful engagement and motivation with the lesson.

Support your findings with a minimum of three scholarly resources.

While APA Style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
