Overview
I wanted to let you know that the first
reading/homework assignment you will have this week, due at the beginning of class on Thursday, May 21, will be the following article from a USC e-book:
The New Latino Studies Reader, chapter 1,
"What's in a Name?"
The related homework is to write a Daily Module Assignment, which is one paragraph, of at least 7 sentences, including two direct quotations from the assigned reading (quotes should include at least one complete phrase, with a subject and a verb, so quotes of only a few words are not sufficient), each cited with a parenthetical citation including the author's last name and page number, i.e. (Gutierrez, 25). Students should reflect on issues raised by the reading, present their opinion of the ideas or interpretations in the reading, and raise questions or comments about the debates highlighted by the reading. These homework assignments are designed to prepare students to have ideas to present in class discussions the next day.
