Step 1: Submit Your Citations
For this assignment, please include two academic journal peer-reviewed sources from ASU databases. The most useful database for our projects will be Academic Search Ultimate, which has a large number of peer-reviewed sources (you can limit your search to only those sources when you search). Provide APA style citations, using correct indentation and formatting (italics, etc.).
Remember that the databases will generate citations for you in a variety of citation styles, including APA. Always check these to make sure formatting copies over (based on your personal browser settings, it may not) and is complete. Sources should also be recent and not too old to be relevant.
Step 2: Complete a Peer Review
For this mini peer review, you’ll be looking at another student’s citations to work on improving our collective understanding of APA style for citations. Being able to successfully apply what you know about APA style, or see additional examples of APA citations will help you and your classmate. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if there are unusual aspects to the citation that you’re uncertain about.
Please complete the steps below as you review your peer’s citations:
- First, verify their citations relate to one of the prompts for the short report and confirm they are from peer-reviewed journals.
- Next, check the source: Use the DOI or URL to find the article. See if the database automatically generates citations, and if so, compare that citation to what your classmate provided.
- Check the names for correct formatting according to APA style.
- Review the article title: Make sure it is not italicized and follows APA capitalization rules—only the first word of the title, the first word after a colon, and proper nouns are capitalized.
- Confirm all necessary information is included, such as dates, volume, issue, and page numbers. Ensure the journal name is italicized.
- Finally, check formatting: The citation should have a hanging indent of 0.5” and be in alphabetical order.
Submission Format
Use the link below and upload your citations and peer review responses directly in Harmonize. You will use the same link for the peer review, which is due two days later.
Grading Criteria
This peer review activity is worth 50 points. Your grade will be based on the following:
- Submitting your own citations on time.
- Providing a thorough and constructive peer review focused on APA citation accuracy and completeness.
Note: Students who do not submit their citations by the due date will not be assigned a peer to review and will not receive credit for this activity.
