QUESTION: Discuss the historical origins of racial categories and their intersection with the economy and government in the lives of at least 2 communities in the Americas from the colonial period through the early 20th century. Consider this question with respect to topics such as land, labor, production, extraction, and trade, and the impact these structures had on different populations. Topics may include the development of extractive enterprises (plantation agriculture, mining), capitalist transnational trade networks, socioeconomic class divisions, land conflicts/policies, and the impact of economic issues on the mobilization of political resistance, etc. You must use at least 3 sources from the course, and only one can be a documentary film/video. Therefore, the use of at least two different course texts is required.
