Overview
Find a short article (1–3 pages is great!) related to your career or an area you’re interested in. This could be:
• A news or magazine article from the University Library
• An article shared by a professional organization
• A short opinion piece or blog with a clear viewpoint
Need help finding something? Ask your instructor or a librarian.
Once you have your article, discuss the following with the class:
1 What’s the article trying to do (i.e., inform, persuade, or something else)? How do the author’s word choices, tone, or visuals support that purpose?
2 How does the article shape your understanding of the topic? What do you notice about how the author presents facts and opinions? Do the facts and opinions feel balanced or one-sided?
3 How would you revise this article for a different audience? What would you change about the tone, language, or format to connect with someone in a different setting (e.g., a coworker, client, or professor)?
