Overview
At Grossmont College, instructors vary in their approaches to AI/ChatGPT, but, in this class, AI/ChatGPT are NOT allowed. Written work that includes AI-generated text will be flagged by an AI-detector and no credit will be given. I view the use of AI as a form of plagiarism since the writing is not your own. Your responses are not expected to be perfectly written and are not evaluated on a right/wrong basis. Rather, I evaluate whether you've responded to the course material using your own thoughts and in your own words.
Why is AI not allowed in this course? Anthropology is the study of what it means to be human, so I want to read human-generated responses. I have selected a wide variety of articles, lectures, videos, and films that expose you to anthropological work and to different cultures around the world. This course is not about memorizing facts or reiterating material -- it is about seeing the world in new ways and understanding our shared humanity. AI cannot help you do that.

- Write a 100-200 word response about what you see as some advantages and disadvantages of using AI. You can respond to the articles or write about your own opinions. It is fine to write about the advantages of AI. But, remember that you cannot use it in this class.
