Overview
1-Discussion (a paragraph for discussion board, not an essay)
Every day there are interactions, news headlines, editorials, and small mentions in the news reports that impact you and the larger community. Staying in the know and current with the occurrences is a necessity in today's fast-paced world.
For this discussion, you will be exploring...
Ethical Implications of Ending Telework & Mass Firings in Government
The new federal administration has implemented major changes to government employment policies:
- Ending the telework policy across the federal government, requiring hundreds of thousands of employees to return to the office five days a week, with only a few weeks’ notice.
- Firing most probationary federal employees for the sole purpose of cutting costs, regardless of individual performance.
These actions raise ethical concerns about government responsibility, labor rights, and the impact on employees and society. Using the ethical frameworks below, analyze the morality of these decisions.
Discussion Questions to address. Please select an ethical framework, either Utilitarianism or Deontological Ethics, for your response. (once more, choose either Utilitarianism OR Deontological):
- AVOID RESPONDING WITH JUST ONE OR TWO SENTENCES for each question. You should answer in complete paragraphs, employing critical thinking. Relying on AI will result in robotic responses and a lack of critical analysis. Please steer clear of that approach. I want to engage with your thoughts.
1. Utilitarianism (Greatest Good for the Greatest Number)
- Does ending telework and cutting employees result in the greatest good for the majority (e.g., taxpayers, government efficiency)?
- If the cost savings benefit the public, does that justify the hardship on affected employees?
- Are there long-term consequences (such as reduced morale, loss of talent) that might outweigh the immediate benefits?
OR
2. Deontological Ethics (Duty-Based Ethics)
- Does the government have a duty to treat employees with fairness and respect, regardless of cost?
- Is it unethical to fire employees solely for financial reasons without considering their individual contributions?
- Does ending telework violate any implicit or explicit commitments made to employees
2- most important assignment ( 5 minutes presentation, create the slides on PowerPoint and write the script as well)
A primary part of ethics and social responsibility is about being able to communicate. Communication comes in a variety of forms: written, visual, and oral.
For this assignment, you are tasked with crafting a presentation with voice-over. You may use any platform you are familiar with or would like to upskill into using. This could include though not limited to:
- Canva
- Microsoft Sway
- Piktochart
- Prezi
No matter the platform you use, please submit it via an upload or link below when complete. Make sure that if you offer a link, there is no password required.
Research
Every day, decisions are being made, statements being read, and actions being implemented that impact those around us. For this assignment, you are tasked with a current event search to discover an issue impacting society. To do this, the following steps are recommended:
- Think: Is there a hot topic or issue you have read about lately and are interested in? Environmental? Legal? International relations? Philanthropic? You may choose any area of interest; just make sure it is YOU who is interested in it. The topic can be regarding a single organization or be a multinational problem.
- Discover: You may want to check these ethical business issue sites for ideas and jumping-off points.
- Think through different (though common) ethical dilemmas for businesses:
- Review some current issues found through news outlets:
- Decide: Choose your topic. Your current event should be no older than one year. However, that does not mean it had to start one year ago, simply that the impacts have surfaced within one year. Make sure that there is a functioning web link to share during your presentation and substantial external research to use for your presentation. Remember that you are required to have a minimum of three references for this assignment.
Review
Once you have chosen the topic of interest and made sure there were relevant and recent articles, review the ethical dilemma, read all accompanying current event articles, and note the source of these and the lens of the outlet.
Below is a list of required components (1 slide minimum for each component):
Once you have chosen the topic of interest and made sure there were relevant and recent articles, review the ethical dilemma, read all accompanying current event articles, and note the source of these and the lens of the outlet. Presentations should be a minimum of five minutes and a maximum of ten minutes. The condensed length is designed to challenge your summation, communication, and presentation skills. The content and delivery should be thought-through and professional. This is a class presentation; you should design your visual content in a thought-through and professional manner
3- 2-3 minute, self-recorded vlog (you just have to write the script of the vlog) Self-reflection is an integral part of the process that allows you, the decision-maker, to be thoughtful in the approaches used in making decisions. Take a few minutes to reflect on the following, and connect your thoughts to ethics, the workplace, and organizations. Remember that these vlogs are an informal way for you to reflect, interpret, and internalize the concepts covered.
For the vlog assignment, reflect on the following:
What is a diverse constituency and why does it matter to CSR and sustainability?Do not read the entire script during the video! It is okay to read notes, but not the full script. This is a spontaneous reflection.
That is all, DON'T USE AI !!!!!!!!!! Pleased I need the first assignment within 2 hours, 2nd tomorrow, 3rd at the last day of the deadline.
