Overview
After completing the readings and watching the Satirical News Video (If that link does not open, try this YouTube link: Satirical News Video YouTube), discuss the following:
- What term did you hear used often in the video to describe the participants?
- How was the event described?
- How were the participants described? Be clear in the vocabulary they used using examples from the video.
- Were the descriptors used positive or negative?
- What consequences happen by using these terms to describe the people?
- How might it impact a group of people with a shared characteristic (like skin tone, sex or gender, sexuality, social class, disability) if the small amount media exposure frequently used these descriptors. Relate this to the What Would You Do? and/or A Class Divided videos we watched previously.
