Discussion purpose:
The purpose of this discussion is to take what you learn about the materials on Chicana/x/o and Latina/x/o Americans and discuss it in terms of real life topics. This will also help to process the affective (emotional) and cognitive (mind) and put it into conversation with the rest of us. Here we create a space where we start from where we are at in our learning and initial exposure to the subject.

- The late well-known chef/food enthusiastic/food travel historian (and more!) Anthony Bourdain once said that the U.S. loves Mexican food, loves Mexican culture, loves Mexican things, but (in a nut shell) the U.S. does not treat Mexican people well. (Please note: Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day but still lots of people in the U.S. love to party on that day!) If you can see from the materials this week, Hispanics/Mexican Americans/Latinxs have endured hardships and challenges but also rise up and resist. What do you think about what Anthony Bourdain said and how do you also put it in conversation with our materials from this week?
