Overview
An important aspect of classroom management is keeping students safe. Student safety concerns include the use of technology and other classroom resources, maintaining students’ privacy, bullying, trauma, and child abuse. Teachers need to be aware of their legal and ethical responsibilities when it comes to protecting students in their classrooms.
Part 1: Legal and Ethical Infographics
Using a free tool (e.g., Canva, Prezi, Genially), create two training infographics for teachers that explain applicable federal/state/local laws and ethical obligations related to teachers' responsibilities in protecting students’ rights and safety. Choose two topics below for your infographics:
- Discrimination
- Active Shooter
- Title IX
- Bullying
- Custody
- Mandatory Reporting
- Technology
For each topic create an infographic that includes the following information:
- Explain federal/state/local laws that apply.
- Discuss the ethical obligations of the teacher, including specific reference to the Model Code of Ethics for Educators, when addressing the topic.
- Describe the roles and responsibilities of the teacher when addressing the topic.
Part 2: Reflection
In 150-250 words, reflect on how adhering to legal and ethical obligations and responsibilities creates a learning environment that protects students’ rights and safety.
