Exploring Science Awareness

Overview

Assignment: Exploring Earth Science and Environmental Awareness

Objective: Environmental awareness is an important part of earth science education. Children need to understand the relationship between natural resources, the environment, and the role they can play in conservation and protection. In this assignment, you will select two activities from Chapter 11 of your textbook—one for 1st or 2nd graders and one for 3rd graders—that help teach earth science concepts and environmental awareness.

Instructions:

  1. Choose Activities: After reading Chapter 11, select one activity appropriate for 1st or 2nd graders and one activity for 3rd graders. These activities should focus on earth science concepts such as rocks, weather, minerals, space, forces, or environmental awareness.
  2. For each activity include:
  • Activity Title
  • Objective: What is the goal or learning purpose of the activity? What do you want students to achieve or understand by the end of the activity?
  • Concept Covered: What specific earth science or environmental concept does the activity teach? (For example, rocks, weather patterns, conservation, etc.)
  • Activity Description: Briefly describe what the students will do during the activity. How will they engage with the content? What hands-on experiences or tasks will they complete?

Tips:

  • Make sure your activities are engaging and interactive, encouraging hands-on participation.
  • Focus on activities that promote both scientific learning and environmental stewardship.
  • Think about how students can make real-world connections to the concepts they’re learning.

Grading Criteria:

  • Clarity: Your paragraphs should clearly explain the objective, concept, and activity for each grade level.
  • Relevance: Choose activities that are age-appropriate and relevant to the topic of earth science and environmental awareness.
  • Detail: Provide enough detail in the descriptions so that someone else could understand and implement the activities based on your explanation.
