Overview
Curriculum leaders must develop their own reflective practices to identify areas for growth and to continuously enhance their curriculum and instruction knowledge and skills. By designing personal professional development plans, they can tailor their learning experiences to address specific needs, leading to more effective leadership and improved educational outcomes. Reflective practices enable curriculum leaders to stay current with education trends and research, ensuring they can provide informed guidance and support to their colleagues.
Part 1: Professional Reflection
In the digital portfolio you created in EDU-527, you created a section for Professional Goals with three goals you aim to accomplish as you move from a teacher in the classroom to a curriculum leader.
Note: If you did not create three goals in EDU-527, you will need to craft four goals to include in your reflection.
In 500-750 words, reflect on the following:
- Share your original goals and discuss the progress you have made towards reaching them or what you have learned throughout your coursework that will prepare you to meet those goals. Add at least one more goal related to designing effective professional development. Note: Add your additional goal to the “Professional Goals” section of your digital portfolio from EDU-527. If you have not taken EDU-527, craft your four goals now.
- For each of your four goals, develop at least two action steps to achieve the goal.
- Reflect on your leadership strengths from the leadership assessment you took in EDU-527 or EDU-559. Discuss how these strengths will contribute to your ability to design and deliver effective professional development. Note: If you have not taken EDU-527 or EDU-559, complete at least one of the leadership assessments in the topic Resources.
Part 2: Yearlong Growth Plan
Create a yearlong plan to continue your own professional development to extend curriculum and instruction knowledge and skills and improve your ability to design and deliver professional development for adult learners.
Use a calendar or table format, and for each month of the year, include a professional resource (e.g., books, publications, and online or in-person professional development or training opportunities) with a description of how each resource supports growth towards reaching your goals or in designing effective professional development opportunities.
Support your work with a minimum of three scholarly resources.
Submit your reflection, yearlong growth plan, and scholarly resources as a single document.
