Job Prospects Report Part 3: The Final Report

Overview

This report has 6 sections:

1. Front Matter

2. Introduction

3. Job Prospects in [your field]

4. Interview

5. Conclusion

6. References Page

Below is what goes into each section:

FRONT MATTER

  • Title and table of contents
  • List of tables and figures
  • All on same page
  • INTRODUCTION

  • Purpose statement (what is the purpose of the report?)
  • General overview of job prospects in your field. (3 to 4 sentences)
  • Preview the interview (1 to 2 sentences)
  • JOB PROSPECTS IN [YOUR FIELD]

Cover the following 6 areas. Write AT LEAST one paragraph for each area. Do not combine two areas

    into one paragraph.

    1. Define the profession. Give a high-level overview of what a ________ [fill in your job title]

    typically does.

    2. Salary range. Discuss DFW and state data—compare different states. You also have the option to

compare to similar positions (e.g., technical writer vs. journalist).

    3. Job prospects, including job growth rate information.

    4. Field requirements—what degree is needed, plus helpful additional training or experience.

    5. Medium-size bulleted list of typical job responsibilities. Compare responsibilities listed from the

3 job postings and the BLS website. Don’t just copy in all bullets. Choose the top 10 to 15 job

    responsibilities.

    6. Any additional information you find that would help an advisor recruit students to that major.

    To Do List:

___This is a formal report. Write in paragraph form. Only include bullets for step 5.

___Incorporate at least 3 quotations from the BLS or your article.

___Include your APA-style references from Scribbr in the References section at the end of the report.

  • You needn’t include APA references or in-text citations for the job listings or for the interview.
  • INTERVIEW

    1. Who, or what, was your source or sources? What position do they hold?

    2. Summarize what you learned from the interview using both paraphrases and direct quotations.

This must be in paragraph form.

    3. Be sure your interview information is substantial. A few sentences won’t do.

    To Do List:

___Write a complete paragraph or multiple paragraphs. Include as much content about what you

learned in the interview as possible.

___Use at least 3 direct quotations from the interview.

    CONCLUSION

Summary of overall findings. Look at the data in your report and analyze the data to say something

positive about job prospects in the field and how it’s poised for growth.

    REFERENCES PAGE

___Include your APA-style references from Scribbr (Part 1 of the assignment) in the References section

at the end of the report.
