preclampsia

Overview

You will now care for a client newly diagnosed with pre-eclampsia.

You will research, design, and submit a 'Client Teaching Assignment' PowerPoint presentation for client Naomi.

This component of the Hallmark Assignment includes the objective:

  • Create a PowerPoint presentation reflective of a comprehensive teaching plan for a client newly diagnosed with preeclampsia.

Case Study:

Naomi is a 23‑year‑old African American woman, G1P0, who is 33 weeks pregnant with twins. She returns to the clinic three days after her previous visit, during which she was diagnosed with pre‑eclampsia. Naomi reports that her headaches have become increasingly severe and that she is now experiencing episodes of blurry vision. She states that she continues to feel normal fetal movement.

Her vital signs are obtained, and her blood pressure is 160/100. Physical examination reveals a soft, non‑tender abdomen. Deep tendon reflexes are 3+, and clonus is absent. Urinalysis shows 2+ proteinuria.

Based on Naomi’s symptoms and current assessment findings, her provider confirms the diagnosis of pre‑eclampsia with severe features and admits her to the hospital’s high‑risk antepartum unit for further evaluation, fetal surveillance, and expectant management.

Requirements:

A. Submit 10-15 PowerPoint slides including speaker notes, a title page, and reference slide. Slides should utilize concise phrases (maximum 8 words, 5 lines) and incorporate visual aids. Slides should include the following:

A1. Pathophysiology: Provide an explanation of the pathophysiology of preeclampsia. The explanation must be supported with scholarly evidence.

A2. Recognize Cues: Describe signs/symptoms, client statements, lab work, or assessment findings you would recognize as specific to a client with preeclampsia. The description must be supported with scholarly evidence.

A3. Generate Solutions: List at least 3 SMART goals for this client. At least one goal should be short-term; at least one goal should be long-term.

A4. Take Actions: Explain what nursing interventions you would implement for Naomi. Include the following topics with the rationale for each intervention:

  • Expectant management or serial assessments and testing
  • Pharmacology management: labetalol, hydralazine, betamethasone, magnesium sulfate, and calcium gluconate
  • Describe each medication use, desired effects, adverse reactions, and any required pre-assessments.
  • Activity level

A5. Evaluate Outcomes: Compare observed outcomes to the expected outcomes. Evaluate the effectiveness of the identified interventions.

How to save and submit the assignment:

When you have completed the assignment, save a copy for yourself in an easily accessible place. Then save the file to a Word document. it will create a file that has your slides and your presenter notes. Submit a copy of the PowerPoint and the Word document through Canvas. Please upload .pptx files and .docx only. Make sure the presenter's notes are visible within the PowerPoint uploads to Canvas.

The submission includes a PowerPoint of 10–15 slides with title and reference slides, concise slide content (≤8 words per line, ≤5 lines per slide), visual aids, full-sentence speaker notes, and uploaded in both PowerPoint and Word document formats.

The submission includes a clear and accurate explanation of the pathophysiology of preeclampsia, providing a comprehensive overview with supporting scholarly evidence.

The submission includes recognition of at least six (6) cues (signs, symptoms, labs, or client statements) that are specific to preeclampsia, presented clearly and supported by scholarly evidence.

The submission includes at least three SMART goals (≥1 short-term and ≥1 long-term). Each goal is realistic, measurable, and client specific.

The submission includes a comprehensive Take Action section describing appropriate interventions with rationales, covering expectant management or serial assessments, pharmacology (labetalol, hydralazine, betamethasone, magnesium sulfate, calcium gluconate), pre-assessments, and activity level.

Three observed outcomes are compared to expected patient outcomes. An accurate determination is made as to whether the identified three interventions are effective.

The submission includes APA 7th edition formatting throughout with accurate in-text citations and references from textbooks or peer-reviewed journals within the past 5 years.  4-5 References.
