Creating a Professional Development Presentation

Overview

Assessment Description

Curriculum leaders play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experiences of both teachers and students by providing engaging, valid, and relevant professional development. Effective PD fosters a culture of continuous improvement, equipping educators with the latest instructional strategies and research-based knowledge to enhance their instructional practices. Thoughtful and well-executed PD fosters lifelong learning and professional growth.

Using the presentation outline you created in Topic 4 and applying the instructor feedback, design a professional development presentation that is engaging, creative, and demonstrates best practices for teaching adult learners. Your presentation should go beyond a traditional digital slide presentation and demonstrate opportunities for the audience to be active participants. The content of the presentation should be supported with research-based knowledge.

Speaker notes are required for each content slide. The speaker notes should address for each content-related slide what would be said if giving the presentation in person. Specifically note the engagement, instructional, and questioning strategies that are used by writing those in bold font. The presentation must include a title slide at the beginning and a reference slide with documentation of resources at the end. The title slide and reference slide do not count in the total number of slides.

In addition to a thorough understanding of the content being presented, the 10-12 slide presentation, must include the following:

  • Objectives, Agenda Overview, and Meeting Norms: State the objectives of the professional development and what participants should know or be able to do by the end of the session. These should be measurable objectives. Outline the topics to be covered and meeting norms, including participant engagement that is expected during the presentation.
  • Engagement Strategies: Demonstration of engagement strategies appropriate for adult learners. Note: The engagement strategies should be specifically referenced in the speaker notes using bold text.
  • Instructional Strategies: Demonstration of instructional strategies appropriate for adult learners. Note: The instructional strategies should be specifically referenced in the speaker notes using bold text.
  • Questioning Strategies: Demonstration of questioning strategies appropriate for adult learners. Note: The questioning strategies should be specifically referenced in the speaker notes using bold text.
  • Content Knowledge: Research-based and substantive knowledge on the topic that was selected in Topic 4.
  • Technology/Resources: Include at least one technology tool or platform that would enhance learning about the presentation topic or increase engagement in the presentation.
  • Continuous Learning: Include additional readings or resources for the participants to further their learning and receive ongoing support on the topic.
  • Speaker Notes: Include speaker notes that demonstrate additional information that would be shared as if presenting this PD session in person to adult learners. The engagement, instructional, and questioning strategies should be included in bold text.

Note: You may choose to add this assignment to the “Examples of Coursework” section of your Digital Portfolio from EDU-527.

The presentation should include graphics that are relevant to the content, visually appealing, and use space appropriately.

Since the presentation will be used to communicate with colleagues, keep the tone and language appropriate for the audience and communicate the information in a meaningful but concise way.

Support your work with a minimum of three scholarly resources.

While APA Style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
