Overview
TIMELINE:
- Style Guide, Draft
PAPER PROMPT:
Using the sources you have been collecting, this project will ask you to develop a working style guide for writers in your discipline (reference sources from your blog, from Project 2, and so on). A style guide provides a broad overview of writing in your field-- it spans across genres and discusses general rules. You should start thinking about your Style Guide by searching "Style Guide in (discipline)" and reviewing the examples. Your guide does not have to be as long as the examples you see, but should provide a general overview to a writer in your field of how to write. This style guide will be a Page on Blog and contain the following:
- Format: This should be a page that lives on your blog. Any other formatting and design choices are your choice, but it should be helpful to your audience and include things like headers and bulleted lists, as an example.
- Your Style guide should include commentary on:
- Intended Audience of the Guide: Who is this for and why?
- Tone across writing
- Form/Format/Organization
- Citation/Attribution Practices
- Features of Content/Methods
- Design/Visuals
- Specialized Language
- Anything else you can think of as being useful to understanding writing in your academic discipline! Read more here for details on these ideas: https://writingcommons.org/section/style/writing-styles/academic-writing-style-guide/
- Sources: Your style guide must use a variety of background and sample sources:
- You must use a minimum of 2 background sources; these sources should be ones that discuss writing in the academic discourse community specifically or discourse, rhetoric, etc. in general (e.g. websites that discuss writing in science, for example).
- You must use a minimum of 3 sample sources; these sources should be samples of academic writing (e.g. research briefs, published papers, etc.) in your discipline/writing community.
- You may use any additional source material that will be helpful for your research.
- Citation: All source material (including class handouts if used as secondary sources) should be given appropriate attribution and citation. You may use any documentation style format (e.g. MLA, APA). Appropriate documentation/citation will include in-text citations and some sort of reference page/section.
Contract Grading:
- Draft must be over 1000 words
- Must include multimodal elements to aid
- Must include some of the elements (e.g. tone, citation, formatting, etc.) listed above
- Must complete Peer Review
- Must include AI Acknowledgement: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BApmXvulBc__JH...
