Coaching Action Plan

Overview

Assessment Description

Having an instructional coaching action plan is crucial for fostering structured, focused, and effective development and training among teachers and staff. With a clear and detailed plan, a coach can align goals, ensure consistent support, and track progress. This strategic approach enables the coach to address individual and collective needs while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and enhancing overall instructional quality.

After accepting the new position as an instructional coach at your desired school setting, the administrator has asked that you develop a comprehensive Coaching Action Plan to help guide you within the role. Use a generative AI platform (e.g., ChatGPT, Magic School) to assist in generating a first draft of the action plan.

Note: The output created with an AI tool is the starting point, rather than the final product. Reviewing, editing, and refinement are still essential to ensure work is free of any inaccuracies, biases, or problematic content and to tailor content to your specific needs and beliefs. Review the AI Resource Center located in the Student Success Center to understand acceptable uses of AI.

Include the following in your Coaching Action Plan:

  • Description of your school setting, your role and responsibilities within the plan, and the purpose of the action plan.
  • Description of the importance of a coach being equipped with the skills to listen, respond, and collaborate with those who have differing personalities or beliefs. Include strategies you can use as a coach to listen, respond, and collaborate with indicators of how you will know if you are successfully incorporating those skills. Integrate citations from the resources available in the Canyon Center for Character Education and the Professional Dispositions of Learners.
  • Sample script between yourself and a teacher needing additional support within their grade level or content area that depicts instructional coaching questions and/or coaching stems to support teachers in following best practices for instruction and assessment. Use a different font, such as bolding or italics, to indicate questions and stems that could be used in multiple coaching contexts.
  • Plan for documentation and reporting of PLC meetings, coaching sessions, observations, and feedback.
  • Qualitative and quantitative measurements and evaluation tool or strategy for communicating effective, descriptive feedback to adult learners.

After creating your Coaching Action Plan, write a 250-350 word reflection that includes the following:

  • A screenshot or copy of the original output generated by the AI tool. Note: The original output is not included as part of the word count.
  • Discuss what revisions you made with justification on why those changes were made.
  • Explain your process of prompting the AI tool and the challenges you encountered or changes you will make when using AI in your future professional role as an instructional coach.

Support your work with a minimum of three scholarly resources, including a citation of your chosen AI tool.
