Overview
Staff cohesiveness is an important part of the coaching and mentoring process. Mentoring and building relationships help create a unified school culture by building effective communication and a common purpose. Providing the staff with clear direction and goals, while making everyone feel valued, is an integral part of being a leader. This often means mitigating challenges while simultaneously offering continuous support.
Imagine that you have been asked to navigate a challenge within a grade level or content area team of teachers. As the instructional coach working with each team, you first need to address the issue and then create a microlearning to support the staff as they work towards a resolution. Select one scenario from “EDU-584 Mediating Challenges,” that is most appropriate for your current or future professional setting.
Part 1: Plan for Resolution
In 250-350 words, draft a plan that would be sent to your administrator prior to mentoring the team. Bullet points are acceptable. Include the following:
- Two approaches to build trusting relationships within the work group and increase teamwork. Include a description of each approach and why it is appropriate for your chosen scenario.
- Two research-based strategies for communicating effective, descriptive feedback to the team (specifically the staff that may be averse to change), and how you would use the strategies to mitigate the challenge.
- Justification of how each strategy above supports the ongoing development of adult learners and assists in them becoming increasingly self-directed and reflective.
Part 2: Microlearning
Using a technology tool of your choice, such as Canva, Nearpod, or Prezi, design a microlearning to be presented to the teacher team. The microlearning should acknowledge each person’s opinion, dedication to what is best for students, and role within the teams’ solution process. Along with demonstrating the approaches and strategies within your Part 1 Plan for Resolution, the microlearning should include the following:
- A shared goal or outcome of resolving the challenge.
- Research and evidence to support why the goal or outcome is the best option for supporting positive student outcomes.
- A proposal for a gradual implementation plan, starting with small, manageable changes and the responsibilities each team member has within the plan.
- A schedule or plan for regular check-ins to discuss progress, address concerns, and provide ongoing support.
- At least 2-3 resources or examples for the teachers to utilize when continuing to build collaborative and self-reflective practices with a description of how each supports growth.
