Curriculum leaders and instructional coaches play a crucial role in modeling and establishing educational effectiveness and excellence. A well-developed plan of action provides leaders with a clear roadmap to implement, assess, and refine curricular initiatives and changes.
Imagine it is the end of the school, and you have now had the opportunity to plan for and facilitate PLC meetings and coaching sessions with teams and individual teachers throughout the school year. After gathering feedback and seeing that teachers need more support in PLCs for the upcoming year, you have been asked to write a Professional Growth Plan essay to submit to your administrator. This is your opportunity to reflect on what you have learned and how you plan to implement that knowledge and experience moving forward.
Based on your current or future professional setting, in 1,250-1,500 words, reflect on the following:
- Defined roles and responsibilities of the instructional coach including training, collaboration, and motivation. Note: This may be revised or expanded from the Topic 1 assignment but must demonstrate a deeper understanding of the instructional coach’s role.
- Measurable schoolwide goals for the next year, with at least one focusing on collaboration to create cross-curricular learning experiences and another on the integration of technology. Consider using AI with the first draft principle to craft your goals.
- A proposal for a back-to-school coaching session that will be presented in grade level or content area PLC meetings to support the staff in achieving the schoolwide goals, while strengthening the learning environment for students.
- At least two strategies, resources, and/or tools to facilitate collaborative planning between members of the PLC and other professionals who have specialized expertise to design effective cross-curricular learning experiences.
- At least two tools and/or resources, including technology, that you anticipate will be used during the next school year, and an explanation of how each will assist the instructional coach in implementing PLCs or assist the teachers in achieving the outlined goals.
- At least three instructional strategies or activities to be used during the PLC to engage teachers and increase self-efficacy in meeting the schoolwide goals.
- A plan for how you will continue to support the teachers outside of the PLC meeting and throughout the school year.
Ensure your plan begins with a strong introduction that includes the purpose of the plan and ends with a convincing conclusion that aligns with the development of the purpose.
