Bio som MB

Whatever communication method you chose make sure I am able to translate the words to french. Also make sure the assignment meets all the criteria below.

DESCRIPTION

Why are some species similar, while others are unique? What are the scientific explanations behind the evolution of species? In this module, you will see that all living things are the product of many biological transformations over millions of years.

Create a "Did You Know" vignette about the evolution of a species of your choice. Choose an original format to present it.

Here is a roadmap (Roadmap) to help you remember various elements to collect for your vignette. Remember to follow the steps and document your work.  Look at the Adapted Rubric to make sure you complete everything.

Step 1: Planning

Choose an existing species that intrigues you.

Formulate questions about the evolution of this species, such as:

How did this species adapt to its environment?

What mechanisms best explain the evolution of this species?

What factors influence the mechanisms of evolution of this species?

Has the evolution of this species been studied by scientists?

Is the evolution of this species threatened by environmental change?

Hypothesize about the future evolution of this species.

Gather information from print and electronic media (e.g., scientific journal, database, Internet) about this species and reference it.

Step 2: Research

Conduct detailed research on the selected species to answer scientific questions about its evolution. Find information about the following

the French and Latin names of the species

the process of adaptation of the species to its environment illustrated by examples

the type of speciation affecting the species (e.g., allopatric, sympatric)

the mechanisms of evolution as they relate to species (e.g., natural selection, sexual selection, artificial selection, genetic variation, genetic drift, mutation)

the effects of evolutionary mechanisms on species biodiversity;

the phylogenetic tree that reconstructs the relationship of this species to other species

the factors that influence the evolutionary mechanisms of the species (e.g., genetic factors, geographic factors, ecological factors)

the scientists who have studied the species and their theories about it

the scientific evidence put forward to explain the evolution of the species

the impact of environmental change on the natural selection of this species, if applicable.

Find pictures of this species at different stages of its evolution or make diagrams on your own.

Make observations and select information based on specific criteria (e.g., relevance, expected output, reliability of sources, timeliness).

Step 3: Analysis and interpretation

Assess the reliability of the information gathered.

Analyzes and synthesizes the information gathered (e.g., process data, select images, select quotes, develop ideas).

Makes connections between this species and other similar species that exist today.

Demonstrate, using examples, the importance of this species to biodiversity today.

Draw a conclusion about the evolution of this species and justify it.

Step 4: Communication

Present the information gathered during your documentary research in the form of a "Did you know?

Choose a communication method that is appropriate for your message and audience (e.g., video, podcast, TED-style presentation, animation, cartoon, infographic).

Communicate your ideas using the correct evolutionary terms (e.g., population, species, fossil, speciation, natural selection, mutation, adaptation, origin of species).

Post your "Did You Know" vignette in the virtual learning environment to communicate your key findings on the topic to students in the biology class.
