Saudi Electronic University Biology Impact of Social Media on Mental Health: Paper

Overview

Final Project Instructions and Rubric

Select a primary scientific article of your choice that deals with any of the content/topics we

have covered this semester as it pertains to wellness. Primary scientific articles will typically

report on original research or replications of previously conducted experiments, or they will be

literature reviews in which the author(s) present the results of a literature search on a specific

topic. Many of the articles you read this semester are examples of these different types of

primary articles. The article reflections you have written throughout the semester have been

brief summaries using four basic questions to guide you. The discussion boards were then a

way for you to offer more analysis to your peers. Use what you learned from these two

exercises throughout the semester to write a complete analysis of your article of choice.

For your analysis, you will include similar summaries that you have used in your article

reflections but will go a little deeper. You will include an introduction, summary, critique, and

conclusion.

Introduction

Include an introductory paragraph that includes the following:

  • The author’s name(s) and the title of the article
  • The author’s main point
  • A thesis statement that previews your analysis (see more about a thesis statement
  • below.)

    Summary

After your introduction, discuss the following in your own words:

  • The main points of the article
  • The arguments presented in the article
  • The findings of the article
  • Critique

After summarizing the article, critique the article by doing the following:

  • Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the article.
  • State your informed opinions about the clarity, relevancy, and accuracy of the article,
  • using specific examples from the article to support your statements.

    Conclusion

Finally, end your article analysis with a conclusion that does the following:

  • Summarize the key points in the article, as well as the key points from your own
  • analysis.

  • Close with a comment about the significance of the research to you/your community or
  • a statement of future research needed in the field. What is a thesis statement?

A thesis statement is a sentence that states the topic and purpose of the paper you are

analyzing. A good thesis statement will direct the structure of your essay and will allow the

reader of your analysis the ideas you will discuss within your paper.

Your thesis statement should be somewhere in the opening paragraphs of your analysis, most

often as the last sentence of the introduction. Often, a thesis statement will be one sentence,

but for complex subjects, you may find it more effective to break it into two sentences.
