Overview
The purpose of this activity is for you to identify the component steps of the evidence-based practice process model as well as consider how the availability of research evidence, various client characteristics, and practice context impact how evidence-based practice guides decision-making.
Start by reading the following chapter: Bellamy, J. (2013). Becoming evidence-based: A social work agency's effort to move research into practice. In C. W. LeCroy (Ed.), Case studies in social work practice (3rd ed.). Hoboken, NJ: Wiley. Starting from page 377.
Answer the following questions:
- Name the steps of the evidence-based practice (EBP) process model and what was done for each step in the case study.
- How did the level of practitioner/staff expertise impact how decisions were made about the use of EBP in this case study?
- How did the research evidence available impact the types of decisions the agency made about the use of EBP?
- What impact did the characteristics of the client base have on how EBP was implemented and/or how EBP-related decisions were made by the agency?
