PROMPT: In Book II, Chapter I, Lady Wondershoot meets Caddles and questions, “Is it right this child should have such an extraordinary quantity of milk?” In Chapter II, the Vicar declared Caddles to be "a terrible nuisance about the village." We learn that Caddles is not given access to school nor church.
Discuss the attitudes of the various villagers (e.g. Lady Wondershoot, the Vicar, Caddles' mother) towards Caddles and others like him. How do they treat him, and how is Caddles’ life shaped by that treatment?
How were people with physical differences treated at the time of publication of The Food of the Gods? How do you think that Caddles would be treated in the United States today?
Support your reflection with at least 2 quotes from The Food of the Gods, and at least one reference to "Chapter 1: The History of Treatment Toward People With Disabilities" from Psychosocial Aspects of Disability, 2nd Edition.
