Overview
As a manger and leader in forensic science you will be responsible for undertaking your duties ethically, but also ensuring that those individuals you oversee are operating ethically as well. This includes ensuring that a framework of quality management and accountability are in place.
Many of the egregious historic case studies of ethical failures in forensic science deal with severe motivational bias - a generally conscious tendency to favor a particular party for self-serving or personal motivations. For example, forensic scientists who work directly under the prosecutor's office or work for a law enforcement agency may allow their relationships to sway their results.
After reviewing Dr. Iteil Dror's article below on how, from a cognitive neuroscience perspective, human element issues affect forensic science, discuss how human factors issues challenge forensic science leaders and how they can and are being addressed.
