Overview
Please answer the Questions according to the attached slides.
1. In class we learned that the textbook author Dr. Weinberg was able to transform normal human cells grown in culture (in a dish) by adding 4 different things to the cells (Figure 11.28). One of these components was SV40 large T antigen, which inhibits both pRb and p53. For each of the following items explain what the item is (in as much detail as possible with the information provided in class) and how it would be expected to alter its relevant tumor suppressor protein (p53 or RB):
CDK4 + D1:
DN p53 (dominant negative):
HPV E7:
HPV E6:
Also, provide one other example of a protein that you could add to cells which would be expected to inhibit p53. What is a protein that would inhibit RB? Hint--these are not normally found in our cells.
2. Pick a topic/concept from class and write a short scene that illustrates the concept. Set the scene, describe your character(s) and then write at least 8 lines of dialog. If you choose something that is complicated, the exercise of making an analogy and making the concept come to life might help you learn and remember it better.
