Overview
Pick a favorite species (e.g. Megaptera novaeangliae) or organismal group (e.g. whales) of plant or animal and find a peer-reviewed journal article about some aspect of that species’ evolution (see my PDF below on horned lizards).
Read the paper and post the following:
- Uploaded PDF of the article
- Common and Scientific name of the species or group
- Why this species/group is of interest to you
- 2-3 sentence summary of the introduction (must include what aspect of evolution)
- 2-3 sentence summary of the discussion/conclusion
Reply to two peers:
- Have you ever had any interest in their chosen species/group?
- List one new thing you learned from their post
- 40 word minimum
Need help finding a paper? Being a student at ASU gives you great access to scientific literature. A great place to start is the ASU library website (https://lib.asu.edu/). Use the “One Search” feature at the top of the page and type in appropriate search terms based on your species. Try doing searches on both the common and scientific names, you might find you get different results. You also might find that you can’t find an article for your favorite species but you find one for a closely related species, just go with it and explain this in your post!
