complete the perv homework

Each of you must complete two drafts as checkpoint assignments that are part & parcel of the overall student project. These checkpoints are intended to ensure adequate progression and to provide a means for regular input from the instructor. Checkpoints are snapshots, and project creation is a work in progress. Students will likely adjust, modify, delete, and add content as they move

forward. Submit this in the Canvas Assignment titled Checkpoint #4.

    1. PPTX draft that minimally includes completed Slides #1-5
    2. Working reference slide with all references-to-date

General Guidelines for the PowerPoint

You must create a PPTX file (all slides in landscape format). Use the following instructions:

  1. Slide #1 is the title slide. The following information must appear on this slide:
    • Project Title
    • Student Name
    • Course Name
    • Date
  2. Slides #2-8 are the content-based slides. Emphasis must be placed on originality in both thought & delivery. The presentation must include your critical evaluation of, or opinions about, the research, history, and future perspectives.

Specific Guidelines

Content Guidelines: each slide should focus on one of the following:

  1. Description of the foundational work that led up to the award
  2. Description of the award-winning work itself
  3. Explanation about how the research relates to, or can be integrated with, our core course material
  4. Critical evaluation of the work and explanation as to why you think the research was award-winning
  5. Impact of this award-winning work (on the larger field and subsequent research). You can use PubMed’s citation and publication count to analyze how this research impacted the field.
  6. Consideration of questions still at-large
  7. Contemplation about how one of these questions in #6 might best be answered; Where do you see this field going and how would you address this question? (for example: Can you target this for a therapeutic?, How could you enhance a technology?, Can you make a process more efficient?) *This should be slides 7&8.

Slide #9 is your references

Each of you will prepare a complete reference list for your project. This will be the last slide of the PowerPoint. Include any/all references used in creating the PPTX file. Select 5-10(+) different content-based sources when preparing your presentation, relying most heavily on articles and reviews from biological journals; this shall include a minimum of 4 peer-reviewed original research articles directly related to the prize-winning work. In addition, full citations for all images embedded into the PPTX must also be included in the references.

Organizational & Formatting Guidelines

  • The presentation must be cohesive & well-organized.
  • Each slide should focus on a distinct topic directly related to the overall project.
  • Each content-based slide must include at least one informative image (figure, table, or illustration) that adds depth and clarity to the presentation. Images must be of sufficient size and resolution, as they will be the focal point for the content of each slide.
  • Short citations for all images must be embedded within the slides themselves; if multiple images appear on one slide, assign all citations unambiguously. Use full citations, which must be listed in the references.
  • The text should be kept to a minimum on the slides themselves; consider clarity versus clutter. Apply the 4x6 rule: 4 bullet points with a maximum of 6 words per bullet, or six (6) bullet points with a maximum of 4 words per bullet.
  • As you formulate your slides, think carefully about the content you will deliver orally via Panopto.
