Overview

you are expected to use your own words in your responses. Please note your responses will be subjected to plagiarism scrutiny, and any indication of plagiarism will result in a zero. Answer each question entirely in your own words

1. Briefly discuss 3 "lifestyle" activities that correlate with increase cancer risks?

2. Within a single individual, all the cells have identical genetic material.Given this, do all cells express the same genes at the same time?

3. Why is ionizing radiation so harmful?

4. Do all cells in your body divide at the same rate?

5. You are a summer intern working at a lab that studies toxic compounds found in water sheds close to industrial sites. The lab just got water samples from a new site, and is testing them on fibroblasts (a type of mammalian cell) in culture. The initial tests show that exposure to this water is changing the general DNA expression profile (using microarray essays). The profile in the treated cells matches that observed in pancreatic cancer cells. Additionally the altered gene expression profile is observed in subsequent cell generations even when the cells are no longer exposed to the polluted water. The lab isolates and sequences DNA from the fibroblasts treated with the contaminated water. The sequencing data reveals very few mutations in the DNA.What type of mechanism that would result in an inheritable altered gene expression profile that is independent of alterations in the DNA sequence itself?
