Overview
This INDIVIDUAL lab report needs to include only the following sections: Results and Discussion. Please refer to the Lab Handout for - Drosophila Genetics (Parts 1, 2, and 3) for more information regarding content to include in the report.
IMPORTANT: While you are welcome (even encouraged!) to collaborate with other genetics students when preparing your lab report, the figures/tables you present and all of the writing you include MUST be in your own words. No electronic files should be shared between you and other genetics students. I was group 2 for the class data on the whiteboard.

|---|---|---|
| Criteria | Ratings | Pts |
Results | 10 to >8 pts Level 4: Mastery Group data and class data are present. Data from the parental generation, F1 generation, and F2 generation are present, accurate, and appropriately labeled. Calculations for three-linked genes are accurate; correct map is given. Interference is calculated correctly.8 to >6 pts Level 3: Competency Group data and/or class data may be missing key points. Data from the parental generation, F1 generation, and F2 generation is present; however, data include inaccuracies. Calculations for three-linked genes are mostly accurate, but some minor inaccuracies are present (which results in an incorrect map). Interference is mostly correct.6 to >4 pts Level 2: Emerging Group data or class data is missing from the parental generation, F1 generation, or F2 generation. Tables are mislabeled or missing data. Inaccuracies in the data calculations are present for the map and interference.4 to >0 pts Level 1: Developing Data is missing from multiple generations. Many mis-labels and inaccuracies in the data and analyses are present. | / 10 pts |
Discussion: Part A | 10 to >8 pts Level 4: Mastery Clear and accurate identification of wild-type and mutant traits. Clear explanation of which characteristics are dominant and recessive (+ rationale). Clear explanation of which characteristics are x-linked (+ rationale). Clear description of how the map was generated. Accurate interpretation of interference values.8 to >6 pts Level 3: Competency Correct identification of wild-type and mutant traits. Somewhat clear explanation of which characteristics are dominant and recessive. Somewhat clear explanation of which characteristics are x-linked. Description of how the map was generated is missing elements. Misunderstanding about the interference values.6 to >4 pts Level 2: Emerging Misidentification of wild-type and mutant traits. Vague explanation of which characteristics are dominant and recessive. Vague explanation of which characteristics are x-linked. Description of how the map was generated is missing several important elements. Interference value is not reported.4 to >0 pts Level 1: Developing Wild-type and mutant traits are not identified. Explanation of which characteristics are dominant/recessive is missing. Explanation of which characteristics are x-linked is missing. No description of how map was generated. Interference value is not reported. | / 10 pts |
Discussion: Part B (redo) | 4 to >3 pts Level 4: Mastery Specific description of area of improvement and identification of what would be done differently if experiment was repeated - OR - Description of NO improvement (if all results were consistent with what was expected)3 to >2 pts Level 3: Competency Good description of area of improvement, however additional details required regarding how things would be done differently if experiment was repeated.2 to >1 pts Level 2: Emerging General description of area of improvement, however no details given as to how things would be done differently if experiment was repeated1 to >0 pts Level 1: Developing Section completely missing | / 4 pts |
Discussion: Part C (Next Steps) | 4 to >3 pts Level 4: Mastery Appropriate description of a follow up experiment that directly builds upon current experiment is included3 to >2 pts Level 3: Competency Good description of a follow up experiment that builds upon current experiment is included, however, additional details are required.2 to >1 pts Level 2: Emerging Vague or cursory description of a follow-up experiment is included, requiring several more details and descriptors.1 to >0 pts Level 1: Developing Description of follow-up experiment does not build upon current experiment OR Description of follow-up experiment is inappropriate given current experiment OR Description of follow-up experiment is missing. | / 4 pts |
Grammar and Spelling | 2 to >1.5 pts Level 4: Mastery Grammar, punctuation, and mechanics of writing are excellent.1.5 to >1 pts Level 3: Competency Grammar, punctuation, and mechanics of writing are very good. A few errors are present1 to >0.5 pts Level 2: Emerging Grammar, punctuation, and mechanics of writing are good; however, several errors are present.0.5 to >0 pts Level 1: Developing Many errors in grammar, punctuation, and mechanics of writing are present. | / 2 pts |
