Case study directionStudents will review in detail the chosen pathogen and create a case study based on what they have learned. The presentation should be created in the format of Power Point.
For the case study content:
- Start with a patient (not real).
- Include the patient history/demographic information that would be accurate for a patient with the disease caused by your organism (age, health status/history, social behaviors as they apply to your specific organism/disease). Try to identify the likely mode of transmission (if it’s an insect vector, include where/when/how they would’ve been in contact with the insect).
- Provide the classic symptoms for your chosen disease. Highlight the virulence factors of the organism that contributes to these symptoms.
- What are the next steps you should take as a clinical professional, specific diagnostic testing, etc.? What are the most likely treatments for the disease and your patient?
- Could this have been prevented, if so how? What can we do as a community to limit the spread of the disease?
