Purpose:
- To complete the table with relevant information regarding each major type of protist and apply that knowledge to identify six unknowns
- This lab supports Module Outcome MO1.6: Use an organism’s characteristics to classify it into a taxon within the protists (CO1)
Skills:
- Research each organism using your textbook
Knowledge:
- Name the major groups of protists
- Identify characteristics of each major group of protists
- Classify organisms into the correct group based on characteristics
Task:
- Fill in each row with the information related to each protist. There is a guide at the bottom of the table that explains what each column header means. Two examples have been completed for you. If a block is left blank, it will be counted as incorrect.
- Type the information into the correct block. Every block requires an answer. If a block is left blank, it will be counted as incorrect. If the protist doesn’t have the feature, then you must write No or N/A.
- After you complete the table, you will use the information to identify the images of six unknown protists in Activity 2.
- Highlight or bold your answers to make them easier to find.
Criteria for Success
- Submit the completed table to the Assignment Dropbox titled Lab Protists Identification by the due date.
- This activity is worth 100 points and is part of the Lab Activities grade.
