Overview
For this Assignment, you will be considering different types of research data and how they are used to collect, analyze, and convey information. When conducting your own doctoral research, one of the critical questions you will need to answer is which methodology—qualitative, quantitative, or a mix of both—would be appropriate for your particular study. You will begin to consider this question later in this course, but for now, you should return your attention to Mary Muchendu and the recommendations you provided her in your Week 3 Assignment.
For this Assignment, you will analyze the types of data you would need to provide Mary with the best evidence-based recommendations to the questions and decisions she is facing. You will also explore how to represent this data visually.
To prepare for this Assignment
- Review the Learning Resources and the recommendations you provided in the memo you wrote to Mary Muchendu for your Week 3 Assignment.
- Consider the key factors that impact Muchendu’s decisions and actions.
- For each of your recommendations, consider what type(s) of data—qualitative, quantitative, or a mix of both—you would need to provide sufficient evidence to back up each of your recommendations. Make note of specific types of data (e.g., financial, anecdotal, etc.) you would want to include in a presentation to Muchendu to accompany the memo you wrote.
- Consider how you would represent that data visually if you were to include it in a presentation. For example, if you were to include increased costs as a consideration and included that topic in your recommendation, then you would want to represent that data quantitatively, perhaps using the visual of a chart or graph to show the increase of costs over time.
Submit a 2- to 3-page proposal for how you would present types of data to Mary Muchendu to promote effective communication and understanding of complex information. In your proposal, do the following:
- For each recommendation that you provided in your Week 3 Assignment, explain whether you would choose quantitative data, qualitative data, or a mix of both to inform your decisions. Explain why and how the data connects to your recommendations.
- For each set of data that you would include in your recommendations, describe how you would represent the data visually. (Note: You do not need to visually represent the data. You only need to describe how you would do so.)
Refer to the Week 4 Assignment Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this rubric to assess and grade your Assignment.
