Project Kickoff (4 points)
Your final project will require you to answer a real business analytics question for Dartmouth Health (CHaD) using the Battle of the Badges data.
This assignment is your first step in that process.
Create a Word document and enter the following information. If you are working in a 2-person group, only one student needs to upload the Word document to Brightspace; just make sure both student names are on the document.
Part 1: Work Style
Indicate whether you will complete the project:
- Individually
OR - With a partner (max 2 students).
If working with a partner, list both names.
Part 2: Select Your Business Question
Choose ONE of the CHaD business questions:
Ticket Sales
- What ticket sale trends exist that may help us increase attendance?
- What geographical gaps exist within the ticket sales data?
- What can we learn from income/economic data in setting ticket prices?
Player Fundraising
- Is fundraising related to player department location?
- What trends exist in donation amounts?
- Is early fundraising associated with higher total fundraising?
Part 3: Why This Question? (Short Response 3–5 sentences)
Explain:
- Why you selected this question?
- Why it is important to CHaD?
- What kind of decision this analysis could inform?
Part 4: Identify the Data You Will Need
List:
- The specific files (for example ticket reports, fundraising reports, etc...).
- The specific variables/columns you think you will need.
Example:
- File: 2023 Sales Location Report
- Variables/Columns: ZIP code, tickets sold, %Sold, etc...
Part 5: Initial Plan (Bullet Points)
Describe how you think you might approach this question.
Examples:
- Use PivotTables to summarize by ZIP code.
- Create a line chart to analyze trends over time.
- Build a scatterplot to examine relationships.
You are NOT expected to be correct; this is your starting point.
Part 6: One Challenge You Anticipate
What might make this question difficult?
Examples:
- Missing data.
- Data that cannot be merged/combined (think about Module 5 content!).
- Not having the right variables/columns.
Remember: You can modfiy the business question based on the data you have.
Submission Format
Submit as a 1-page document (Word or PDF). Try your best to keep all this information to 1-page.

- Thoughtful explanation (1 pt).
- Data identification (1 pt).
- Initial plan and challenge (1 pt).
