Strategy & Decision Making

Overview

Comprehensive Organisational Strategy Assessment: All work must be done without AI.

Description: Carry out an independent, research-driven strategic assessment of a real organisation experiencing a significant disruption.

Description This final examination requires you to carry out an independent, research-driven strategic assessment of a real organisation that is currently experiencing a significant strategic disruption. To ensure relevance, data availability, and academic consistency, you must select ONE organisation from the approved list provided below. Each organisation is facing a documented strategic disruption and is suitable for strategic analysis within the learning objectives of this course. Your task is to analyse the disruption, evaluate the organisation’s strategic direction, assess its capabilities, consider international and cultural implications, and propose viable strategic response options supported by rigorous evidence.

Approved list attached as a screenshot.

Submission Components 1. Strategic Context and External Environment Provide a clear strategic profile of the chosen organisation and analyse the external environment shaping its current situation. Explain the nature and implications of the selected disruption. Evaluate how competitive dynamics, stakeholder pressures, and macro-level factors influence the organisation’s strategic challenges.

2. Evaluation of the Organisation’s Strategic Direction Examine the organisation’s current strategic direction and managerial choices. Critically evaluate their relevance, strengths, and limitations in light of the disruption. Assess whether the existing approach remains appropriate or requires revision.

3. Strategic Capabilities and Competitive Advantage Analyse the organisation’s key resources, capabilities, and value-creating activities using appropriate frameworks (e.g., VRIO, value chain, capability mapping). Assess the sustainability of its competitive advantage and identify capability gaps or areas requiring reconfiguration due to the disruption.

4. International and Cultural Considerations Evaluate how international market conditions, cultural factors, regulatory environments, and geopolitical dynamics affect strategic choices. Explain how these elements increase complexity and shape the feasibility of different responses.

5. Strategic Options and Recommended Strategy Develop two viable strategic response options to address the disruption. Assess each option in terms of logic, risks, feasibility, and organisational implications. Select one recommended strategy and justify your decision. Provide a concise implementation roadmap including: • key actions • capability requirements • governance considerations • performance indicators • risk mitigation measures

6. Integrative Reflection Provide a brief reflection on what your analysis reveals about strategic decision-making under uncertainty. Highlight the role of evidence, judgement, and long-term thinking.

Additional Requirement Your submission must include one original strategic diagram created by you (e.g., scenario matrix, competitive positioning map, capability gap analysis, risk–impact heatmap, redesigned value chain). This diagram must support your analysis and must not be copied from external sources.
