DEI performance and metrics

Overview

The Oiselle case mentions that some companies “successfully delivered the ‘D’ in D&I, that is ‘hitting the numbers.’ The quantitative progress on diversity, in other words, has overshadowed the qualitative progress on inclusion.” This leads to the question, how should a company measure DEI progress?

For this Assignment, you will assess how companies can measure their DEI performance and identify specific metrics to track progress in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. You will provide recommendations for improving the company’s approach to measuring DEI performance and suggest additional metrics that could provide a more comprehensive understanding of its progress in advancing DEI.

Required readings:

To prepare for this Assignment

  • Select a global company, either Oiselle (from the case study) or another organization of your choice, and ensure that you will be able to evaluate its current approach to measuring and tracking DEI performance.
  • Locate specific metrics that the company could use to measure its progress in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. Consider metrics related to representation, employee satisfaction, pay equity, supplier diversity, and community engagement.
  • Consider the strengths and limitations of the identified metrics and how they align with the company’s DEI goals and values.
  • Consider the business case for DEI metrics and DEI initiatives in general in terms of mitigating risks and maintaining business continuity for an organization.
  • Reminder: If you began using the Case Study Analysis Template in this week’s Discussion to make notes about the case, you can return to it (or begin completing it) for this Assignment.

Submit a 2- to 4-page paper in which you provide an analysis as follows:

  • Briefly describe the company you selected for this Assignment.
  • Identify the metrics used to measure its progress in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of those metrics.
  • Explain how employee representation, employee satisfaction, pay equity, supplier diversity, and community engagement are being assessed by the metrics.
  • Propose 1–2 recommendations for improving the company’s approach to measuring DEI performance and suggest additional metrics that could provide a more comprehensive understanding of its progress in advancing DEI.
  • Analyze the impact of DEI initiatives and the metrics used to measure them on mitigating risks and maintaining business continuity for an organization.
