Global Business perspective- (Siemens),

Overview

For this assignment, you are to develop a two-to-three-page case study of Siemens AG, the German-based, large-scale industrial engineering firm.that illustrates an international business concept that we covered in class this semester. Your case study should address a specific challenge that your subject company is facing as a result of the US-Iran conflict. Use your case-study abstract assignment as a starting point. The written case study should contain these four graded sections:

1> Issue Identification: The case study includes a topic relevant to international business and presents at least one real-world issue or problem related to the US-Iran conflict and its impact on the company or industry. Issue Identification is more than just defining a problem. It is demonstrating that the problem has real world implications that may directly impact business strategy.Your case should make it clear which global business topic is being addressed.Relevant topics may include the following:

  • The future impact of the BRIC economies on world trade (New Global Challengers reading)
  • Global Sustainability and Business Strategy (Resource Competition as a Competitive Edge reading)
  • Global Wages and Income Inequality (World is Flat)
  • A Critique of Globalization (ex. Darwin’s Nightmare)
  • Global Competition and Costs Pressures (New Global Challengers reading)
  • Other topics you suggest will be considered but must be approved by the instructor first.

2> Company Background: The case study identifies a single real-world company as the subject of the case. The case study presents background information about the company including a brief summary of its activities related to the topic of the case and its mission and brief history.

3>International Context: The case study provides general background information on the international context of the issue addressed (country specific information, political or historical context, etc.) as well as specific background information on the industry or problem the case study addresses.

4>Company Strategic Options: The case study presents at least one specific strategic option the subject company can pursue in achieving its objectives related to the previously identified issue or problem that forms the case topic. This option should differ from the current strategy the company is pursuing and should identify the pros and cons of pursuing this option. For example:Sony is considering moving production of its home theater projectors from China to the US to avoid increased transportation costs as a result of higher fuel costs related to the US-Iran conflict. In doing so, Sony will incur major cost and production delays due to the time needed to identify and equip appropriate production facilities in the US.These delays may result in a loss of market share in the short term but provide Sony with a pricing advantage for the US market in the future.

Your strategic option should be worded in a way that allows readers to draw their own conclusions about the attractiveness of the option. You do not have to say what the company should or should not do.

How to Write and Format a Business Case Study

One of the things you need to do quickly is to narrow you case study to focus on a specific action or decision your company can make to deal with the issue or problem you identified in the abstract. These decisions will be presented in the case study as alternatives for the reader to consider. You should not provide an answer to the decision, but you should provide enough information so that the reader can come up with their own answer. You also need to identify a specific individual with a specific set of responsibilities for your company who will be the case protagonist. It is important that this person and their job responsibility is identified so that the reader can understand the level at which the decision in the case is being made.

You should look at the example mini-cases I have posted to get an idea of what's expected in your case study..https://users.sussex.ac.uk/~ssfa2/thirdwaveweb.htmhttps://www.strategy-business.com/article/The-world-is-spiky-not-flat.https://vittana.org/22-globalization-pros-and-cons
