Overview
Here the discussion for this week
Objective: Apply the principles of the Customer-Centric Innovation Map to analyze how a chosen company has balanced risk and reward in its innovation strategies.
Discussion Topic - Risk and Reward in Customer-Centric Innovation
Companies continually strive to align their innovation strategies with user needs using methodologies like the Customer-Centric Innovation Map. Such approaches often demand a fine equilibrium between the potential rewards of successful innovation and the associated risks. This discussion assignment encourages participants to dive deep into such narratives of innovation.
Assignment:
For this discussion, choose a company that exemplifies how a customer-centric approach can influence the balance of risk and reward in innovation. Consider how this company may have mitigated risks while keeping customers at the forefront of their decisions.
Initial Response:
- Select a company that epitomizes disruptive or reverse innovation for your initial discussion response. This could be an organization you have chosen for prior assignments, one you've worked for, or one you admire from afar.
- Instructions. Please include the following in your initial post:
- Company Selection: Select a company that demonstrates the balance of risk and reward in customer-centric innovation. Briefly introduce the company, emphasizing its significant products/services and market relevance.
- Mapping Customer-Centric Innovation: Discuss how the company has applied the principles of the Customer-Centric Innovation Map in its innovation journey. Did the focus on the customer reduce or increase perceived risks? (See Figure 1-1 of the Design Thinking text)
- Risk Management: Describe a crucial moment where the company had to weigh the potential rewards of an innovation against its risks. Discuss the decision-making process and the outcomes of this choice.
- Balancing Act: Explore if there were moments when the company might have prioritized mitigating risks over customer-centricity or vice versa. How did these decisions impact the company's innovation trajectory?
- Concluding Thoughts: Summarize your main points and pose a thought-provoking question to your peers about the topic for further discussion.
- Remember, this discussion aims to dissect the interplay between customer-centricity and the balancing act of risk versus reward in innovation. Ground your insights in your keen observations and thorough company analysis.
Response to Others
- Read at least two posts by your classmates. Respond with thoughtful questions or comments that invite further discussion. For instance, you might:
- Acknowledging the main points or arguments your peer presented in their initial response.
- Provide additional insights, experiences, or examples to extend the discussion or offer a new angle on the topic.
- Provide additional resources or strategies that might enhance the implementation process discussed by your peer.
You will actively participate in discussions for full credit by responding to the discussion question and replying to other students' responses. The initial response should be a substantive post (~400+ words) demonstrating your achievement of the discussion question requirements/intent.
In addition, you are expected to respond to the posts of at least TWO of your fellow learners' discussion posts demonstrating that you have read other students' initial posts by drafting and posting a "peer review" for at least TWO others' article summaries. A Peer Review is an evaluation of creative work by individuals from the same field (in this case, the same class) with the intent of maintaining or enhancing the content of the work. These responses to other learners should be substantive posts that contribute to the conversation by asking questions, respectfully debating positions, and presenting supporting information relevant to the topic. Also, respond to any follow-up questions the instructor directs to you in the discussion area.
Remember to locate, use, cite, and list references to validate statements of fact or corroborate personal opinions/points of view.
