Scripture Reading

Matthew 25:14-30

Required Reading

  • Northouse | Chapter 9: Authentic Leadership (Pages 215–244); Chapter 10: Servant Leadership (Pages 245–276)
  • Irving and Strauss | Chapter 8: Providing Accountability (Pages 163–180)

Learning Objectives Achieved: 2 and 6

Matthew 25:14–30 shows that leaders are entrusted with responsibility and are expected to act, develop, and produce results. The readings emphasize that servant leadership is not passive. Leaders must care enough to hold people accountable while helping them grow. Using at least one properly cited reference from the textbook, explain why accountability is an essential part of both servant leadership and authentic leadership.

Reflect on a leadership situation where accountability was avoided or handled poorly. What impact did that have on the individual and the team? Did avoiding accountability actually help, or did it limit growth? Describe one specific action you will take to provide accountability in a way that develops people while still maintaining clear expectations.

Scripture Reading

Matthew 25:14-30

Required Reading

  • Northouse | Chapter 9: Authentic Leadership (Pages 215–244); Chapter 10: Servant Leadership (Pages 245–276)
  • Irving and Strauss | Chapter 8: Providing Accountability (Pages 163–180)

Learning Objectives Achieved: 2 and 6

Authentic leadership requires self-awareness, transparency, and ethical consistency. At the same time, leaders are responsible for results, not just relationships. Irving and Strauss emphasize that real care includes honest feedback and accountability. Using at least one properly cited reference from the textbook, explain how authentic leadership and accountability work together rather than against each other.

Now consider a leadership situation. You are leading a team where a high-potential individual is not meeting expectations. Describe two leadership actions you could take to address this situation. Then explain which action would be most effective and why, using the readings and the assigned Scripture. Explain how your decision reflects both authenticity and responsibility as a leader.
