Overview

Here is this week discussion

Objective: Examine ethical considerations in innovation, understand the role of leadership in fostering innovation, and evaluate the importance of sustainable innovation.

Discussion Topic - Case Study: Ethical Leadership and Sustainable Innovation

Innovation, while a driving force for growth and prosperity, can sometimes bring about ethical dilemmas. Leaders are pivotal in steering innovation in an ethical direction and ensuring its sustainability for long-term benefits. This discussion assignment invites participants to dissect these facets of innovation.

Assignment:

For this discussion, select a company that has faced ethical challenges in its innovation practices or has demonstrated leadership in promoting ethical and sustainable innovation. Explore the company's innovation journey through the lenses of ethics, leadership, and sustainability.

Initial Response:

  • Select a company that epitomizes disruptive or reverse innovation for your initial discussion response. This could be an organization you have chosen for prior assignments, one you've worked for, or one you admire from afar.
  • Instructions. Please include the following in your initial post:
    • Company Selection: Briefly introduce your chosen company, its significant products/services, and its relevance in the market.
    • Ethical Dilemmas in Innovation: Discuss any ethical challenges or controversies the company faced due to its innovations. How were these dilemmas addressed, and what lessons can be learned from them?
    • Leadership's Role: Delve into the company's leadership's role in fostering innovation or addressing ethical dilemmas. How did leadership practices influence the company's innovation strategies?
    • Sustainable Innovation: Discuss how the company has approached sustainable innovation. Have their innovation practices been geared towards long-term benefits for the company and society? How have they balanced profitability with sustainability?
    • Concluding Thoughts: Summarize your key insights and pose an engaging question to your peers related to the broader topic of ethics, leadership, and sustainability in innovation.
  • Remember, this discussion aspires to uncover the layers of ethical considerations, leadership influence, and sustainability imperatives in innovation. Ground your insights in rigorous analysis and observation of your selected company.

Response to Others:

  • Read at least two posts by your classmates. Respond with thoughtful questions or comments that invite further discussion. For instance, you might:
    • Acknowledging the main points or arguments your peer presented in their initial response.
    • Provide additional insights, experiences, or examples to extend the discussion or offer a new angle on the topic.
    • Provide additional resources or strategies that might enhance the implementation process discussed by your peer.
Response Guidelines:
You will actively participate in discussions for full credit by responding to the discussion question and replying to other students' responses. The initial response should be a substantive post (~400+ words) demonstrating your achievement of the discussion question requirements/intent.

In addition, you are expected to respond to the posts of at least TWO of your fellow learners' discussion posts demonstrating that you have read other students' initial posts by drafting and posting a "peer review" for at least TWO others' article summaries. A Peer Review is an evaluation of creative work by individuals from the same field (in this case, the same class) with the intent of maintaining or enhancing the content of the work. These responses to other learners should be substantive posts that contribute to the conversation by asking questions, respectfully debating positions, and presenting supporting information relevant to the topic. Also, respond to any follow-up questions the instructor directs to you in the discussion area.

Remember to locate, use, cite, and list references to validate statements of fact or corroborate personal opinions/points of view.
