Overview
This assessment is designed to foster intercultural learning and sensitivity to cultural diversity. Students will
develop intercultural competence by achieving an understanding of the nature of cultural differences and
intercultural communication processes in global contexts. This will enable students to recognize and address
various dimensions of culture-bound differences when working in multicultural business environments.

“The growing diversity in today’s workplaces highlights the need to adopt new communication-centered
approaches to managing employee behavior. Traditional models that concentrate mainly on efficiency and profit
no longer fully explain how communication flows and relationships operate within multicultural organizations.
Shifting toward more open, decentralized, and non-hierarchical structures can support clearer, more inclusive
communication across teams. Most importantly, organizations must cultivate an environment where cultural
differences are openly acknowledged, communicated about, and valued for the unique perspectives they bring.
Although cultural diversity is often promoted as a communication asset that can enhance collaboration and
reduce misunderstandings in both business settings and society, attention has mostly focused on its benefits. Far
less has been discussed about the communication challenges and potential missteps that managers encounter
when leading culturally diverse teams. For managers, it is essential to understand when communication patterns
in mono-cultural versus multi-cultural groups may be more effective. This article reviews key research findings
that can guide the development of communication-based frameworks to help managers successfully navigate
and harness cultural diversity in the workplace.”
