COUNTRY FOCUS ASSIGNMENT - NORWAY
Individual and/or Group Assignment
Purpose of the assignment:
When a company makes the decision to work in a foreign country, it must begin examining what the specific HR requirements are for its workforce in that specific country. Specifically, how will this impact our employees we send overseas as it relates to their working environment, e.g., employment legislation, regulations, or environmental and cultural issues. The company and its foreign expats will be presented with situations and challenges that arise from these regulations and environmental factors.
The objective is for you to analyze and become familiar with the country and to get a feel for its main features, general legal environment, business environment, social culture and working culture for the purpose of informing the organizational leadership as to the work differences and challenges in your chosen country and make the appropriate recommendation as to whether to expand in that country, or not.
Format of the presentations:
1. Your presentation needs to be in MS PowerPoint. It should consist of 15 slides, no more than 20 slides. NO Google Docs or other format will be accepted.
2. A two to three page (maximum) Executive Summary is to be submitted with the final presentation.
3. All group members need to participate in the preparation of the presentation.
4. Layout, organization and design of your presentations counts as well as the content
5. Your sources need to be cited. All sources can be cited on the notes section of each slide. You may also place your citations/sources on one slide at the end of your presentation.
6. Presentations will be held posted on the eLearning page in week 14 for review and discussion.
7. Presentations should be emailed to the instructor prior to start of class in week 14, i.e., submitted no later than the last day of week 13.

The Country Focus component will consist of two focus areas:
The purpose of this assignment is to review and analyze the Employment Laws, regulations, to include workweek requirements, benefits, immigration issues, and other issues associated with sending an expatriate to your selected country.
You are to pursue this assignment from the perspective of the HR individual or team, that has been assigned by the Leadership to determine the HR criteria for expanding into your chosen country.
Your presentation should include the following elements:
1. Country Profile of the specific country you have chosen - the objective is to provide an overview of your group's chosen country. Examples of the kind of information that this should include are the following: history, culture, politics, legal system, economy, geography, gender issues etc. Include anything else you think is relevant and of interest.
2. Working Profile of the specific country you have chosen. Outline the working culture of the country your group has chosen and isolate key ways in which this differs from working culture in the US. In essence, what are the key business issues that need to be addressed when working in that country, business regulations, expats/TCN's/local hires, immigration issues, etc...
