Prompt
Your task is to deconstruct a short piece of political media by identifying and analyzing its key critical thinking components. You will fill out the provided analysis chart and then record a brief audio file explaining your findings.
Instructions
Find a source: Find a short political advertisement, a news segment, or a social media clip (2-4 minutes in length) that makes a clear argument about a current event or public policy from the past 60 days.
Download the analysis chart: Review the EXAMPLE Chart then download the provided chart template. The chart will have the following columns:
- Column 1: The main claim or argument of the source.
- Column 2: A specific logical fallacy or rhetorical device you've identified.
- Column 3: The type of evidence used (e.g., statistic, testimonial) and a brief evaluation of its credibility.
- Column 4: A key ethical or legal implication you've identified.
Record your audio brief: Record a 3-5 minute audio file, using the tools available in our classroom. In your recording, walk the listener through your chart, explaining each of your entries in more detail.
This brief should explain:
- Why you chose the fallacy you did
- Why you evaluated the evidence as you did
- Why the ethical/legal point is important
Submit both the completed chart and the audio file.
