Business Metrics Report and Prototype Dashboar

Effective performance measurement is central to operational decision-making and continuous improvement in contemporary organizations. Leaders must be able to identify the metrics that matter, understand how those metrics are generated through BI and ERP systems, and communicate analytical insights to diverse stakeholders. In professional practice, the capability to create and interpret business metrics is essential for roles in operations management, analytics, quality management, supply chain, and strategic planning.

Assessment Deliverable

Create a business metrics report and prototype dashboard. Your prototype should emphasize professional documentation, analytical clarity, and decision-oriented metric design consistent with real-world operational and quality management practice. The written report should be 1,050 to 1,400 words in length.

Include the following in your business metrics report and prototype dashboard:

  • Organizational Context:
  • Describe the organization and operational domain (e.g., service, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare) and the operational challenge or opportunity requiring measurement.
  • Key Performance Areas:
  • Select and synthesize 3 of the following performance domains that are relevant to your optimization goal:
  • Process efficiency
  • Service/production quality
  • Cycle time
  • Resource utilization
  • Customer or supplier performance
  • Compliance or reliability
  • Justify the relevance of each chosen domain to operational and quality outcomes.
  • Proposed Metrics:
  • Demonstrate how ERP systems capture transactional data and how BI tools transform that data into actionable metrics.
  • For each performance domain, identify 2 specific metrics, 6 total, and provide:
  • Operational definition
  • Formula or calculation logic
  • Data source (specific BI or ERP modules/tables)
  • Frequency of reporting
  • End users/stakeholders
  • Data Quality and Measurement Integrity:
  • Synthesize factors that affect the reliability of your metrics, such as:
  • Accuracy
  • Completeness
  • Consistency
  • Timeliness
  • Validity
  • Dashboard or Visualization Concept:
  • Develop a conceptual dashboard mock-up illustrating:
  • Logical grouping by performance domain
  • Priority indicators
  • Decision-oriented design
  • Interpretation and Decision-Making:
  • Synthesize how leaders would use these metrics to diagnose operational challenges and optimize performance.
  • Recommendations:
  • Recommend actionable steps for the implementation of the metrics, including how the BI/ERP systems should be leveraged.

Note: The dashboard does not need to be functional but must clearly convey analytical intent.

Support your business metrics report and prototype dashboard with 3 to 5 peer-reviewed scholarly sources.
