Business Question

Overview

Reply to each of these essay questions in paragraph form. Average two to three paragraphs for questions minimum. Use separate paragraphs for each part of each question -- don't run it all together. Spelling and grammar count! Note that AI detection is turned all the way up on this test -- I will know if you use AI and you will get a zero on the test if you do.

  1. Chapter Nine discusses business communities and exchanges. Locate an article (either online or in the library) about this fast-changing portion of the online world. The article should be no more than two years old. It could be about the evolution of a particular community or exchange, or about this category in general. Review the article by providing me the following:

Title

Publication Date

Author (if given)

Synopsis (a paragraph or two) Points you agree with -- at least three

Points you question or disagree with -- at least one

  1. You have been charged with developing a community for the widget business (a fictional business product). Based on your learning in Chapter Nine, tell me what features you would build into your community for best results, and why. Discuss at least five features.
  1. Chapter Ten discusses Developing Internet Partnerships. The text suggests that smaller partners should "cooperate but do not capitulate" in relations with their larger, stronger partners. But that's a fine line. What would be examples of cooperation versus capitulation? What power does a smaller partner hold in the eyes of the larger, stronger partners?
  1. You have a small B2B web site that is in need of additional revenue for viability. You are considering starting an affiliate program on your site.

What are some of the "how-tos" you'll need to master in order to be successful? Discuss at least three

How can you ensure that you're choosing affiliates that will provide you with sufficient and timely revenues to make the program worthwhile?

Would using a third party to manage your affiliate program help with this? Why or why not?

  1. What is your favorite B2Bweb site that sells products on the Internet? What do you like about it?

How does it facilitate relationship building and loyalty on the part of its customers?

Does it have any clever/slick/effective features that you wish other sites would adopt?

  1. In Chapter Eleven, it is stated that even companies selling extremely high-ticket items (Cessna for example) can sell products and services directly online.

Choose a business-to-business company that sells extremely high-ticket items (not Cessna). Explain how it can use its web site for selling.

Give some examples of the types of products or services this company can/could sell online.

  1. Review the Power Point slides on Christopher Locke's Cluetrain Manifesto (Communities and Exchanges Power Point -- Chapter 9). Then look at Chapter Twelve of our book. Our text takes the position that online marketing is essentially "electronic direct marketing" -- a somewhat limiting concept.

If Locke had a debate with someone who believes online marketing is "electronic direct marketing," whose side would you take? Give at least three reasons why, and explain.

  1. Chapter Twelve ends with a section entitled, "The Internet is an Integral Part of a Changing Marketing World." In addition to what is said here to illustrate that argument, add your own thoughts. In your own mind, how will the Internet change marketing in the near future, and generations down the road? Be specific and discuss at least three concepts.
