333.4.2 : Communicates to Resolve Problems

The learner communicates with users to understand, diagnose, and resolve technical problems.

333.4.3 : Analyzes Organizational Culture

The learner analyzes how to work effectively within an organization’s culture.

Introduction

Every organization has departments or groups with different priorities, communication styles, and levels of technological understanding, and IT helpdesk staff must be able to navigate these differences professionally to resolve issues efficiently while maintaining positive user relationships. Strong communication skills help technicians gather accurate information and diagnose problems more efficiently. IT helpdesk staff must be able to ask the right questions, listen actively, and translate technical language into terms users can understand. Task 2 is a continuation of Task 1. You will continue in your role as a tier 1 IT support technician with Kretsmart’s IT helpdesk. In this task, you will develop a strategic communication proposal to improve cross-departmental collaboration, based on patterns observed during the recent infrastructure outage. Your proposal will identify communication barriers, suggest targeted collaboration strategies, and recommend evidence-based improvements to ensure timely, accurate issue reporting in future incidents.

Scenario

You are continuing in your role as a tier 1 IT support technician with Kretsmart’s IT helpdesk. Your goal is to develop a strategic communication proposal to improve cross-departmental collaboration, based on patterns observed during the recent infrastructure outage from Task 1. Read the attached “Kretsmart Communication Breakdown” and complete the task requirements. Note: You must rely only on the scenario and sample communication data provided to complete this task. Do not invent additional events or assume external procedures.

Requirements

Your submission must represent your original work and understanding of the course material. Most performance assessment submissions are automatically scanned through the WGU similarity checker. Students are strongly encouraged to wait for the similarity report to generate after uploading their work and then review it to ensure Academic Authenticity guidelines are met before submitting the file for evaluation. See Understanding Similarity Reports for more information.

Grammarly Note:

Professional Communication will be automatically assessed through Grammarly for Education in most performance assessments before a student submits work for evaluation. Students are strongly encouraged to review the Grammarly for Education feedback prior to submitting work for evaluation, as the overall submission will not pass without this aspect passing. See Use Grammarly for Education Effectively for more information.

Microsoft Files Note:

Write your paper in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) unless another Microsoft product, or pdf, is specified in the task directions. Tasks may not be submitted as cloud links, such as links to Google Docs, Google Slides, OneDrive, etc. All supporting documentation, such as screenshots and proof of experience, should be collected in a pdf file and submitted separately from the main file. For more information, please see Computer System and Technology Requirements.
