INTRODUCTION
Business productivity software plays a critical role in supporting operational processes, coordinating work, and enabling visibility for stakeholders. This assessment focuses on applying business productivity software to design an effective onboarding process that supports both new hires and supervisors.
Using one business productivity software tool or a small, intentional combination of commonly used workplace tools (such as documents, spreadsheets, task trackers, forms, shared folders, or dashboards), you will design an onboarding solution that organizes onboarding activities, communicates expectations to new employees, and enables supervisors to monitor onboarding progress. Custom software development, automation, or enterprise system configuration is not expected.
Your work should demonstrate how selected software features are intentionally leveraged to support process clarity, task completion, and progress tracking throughout the onboarding experience. You will be evaluated on how effectively your selected tools and features support onboarding needs and supervisory visibility, not on the brand, cost, or complexity of the software selected. The number of tools used should be driven by how well they support the onboarding workflow and progress tracking.
The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to evaluate software capabilities and apply them to a real-world business process. You will use the provided onboarding materials, including the attached "Setting Up Employee Accounts at Autojor IT Company" and "Employee Handbook" documents, as inputs to inform your onboarding design. The focus of the assessment is not on producing a specific document type but on designing an onboarding process using a business productivity software that effectively addresses onboarding needs and supervisory oversight.
To communicate your onboarding solution, you will create a Panopto recording in which you explain your design decisions and demonstrate how the onboarding process supports both new hires and supervisors, including how onboarding progress can be tracked. This recording serves to communicate and explain your solution rather than to deliver a training presentation.
SCENARIO
You are a newly hired worker who has just completed a two-week onboarding course to orient you to the company and the IT team to which you are assigned. As part of a broader review of the onboarding experience, the company wants to update its onboarding materials.
Leadership has identified duplication of content—particularly across the two documents provided—as well as inconsistent formatting, structure, and outdated information. These issues have made it difficult for new hires to clearly understand what onboarding steps they must complete.
In addition, supervisors have reported difficulty tracking new-hire onboarding progress. There is currently no clear way to determine which employees have completed required onboarding tasks, which steps remain in progress, or where new hires may be encountering challenges. This lack of visibility makes it difficult for supervisors to provide timely support, ensure consistency across new hires, and confirm that onboarding requirements have been met.
Because you recently completed the onboarding course and have firsthand insight into its effectiveness, your supervisor has asked you to help improve the onboarding process. You have been provided the relevant onboarding materials and asked to redesign the onboarding approach so that it is clear for new hires and enables supervisors to effectively monitor and track onboarding progress.
Note: The following relevant onboarding materials can be found in the Supporting Documents section:
REQUIREMENTS
Your submission must represent your original work and understanding of the course material. Most performance assessment submissions are automatically scanned through the WGU similarity checker. Students are strongly encouraged to wait for the similarity report to generate after uploading their work and then review it to ensure Academic Authenticity guidelines are met before submitting the file for evaluation. See Understanding Similarity Reports for more information.
Grammarly Note:
Professional Communication will be automatically assessed through Grammarly for Education in most performance assessments before a student submits work for evaluation. Students are strongly encouraged to review the Grammarly for Education feedback prior to submitting work for evaluation, as the overall submission will not pass without this aspect passing. See Use Grammarly for Education Effectively for more information.
File Note:
Tasks may not be submitted as cloud links, such as links to Google Docs, Google Slides, OneDrive, etc. All supporting documentation, such as screenshots and proof of experience, should be collected in a pdf file and submitted separately from the main file. For more information, please see Computer System and Technology Requirements.

Note: Use the same submission materials from part A to support your responses in this section.
1. Describe how your onboarding design (e.g., steps, structure, checkpoints) improves clarity and consistency for new hires.
2. Explain how supervisors can monitor onboarding progress, identify incomplete steps, and provide support using your solution.
3. Describe how your selected tools support communication and visibility throughout the onboarding process.
C. Create a Panopto recording in which you explain your onboarding process design and demonstrate how the solution would be used by both supervisors and new hires. The recording should feature you visibly presenting the material (i.e., not in voiceover or embedded video) and it should clearly communicate how the onboarding process supports onboarding completion and progress tracking.
INSTRUCTIONS
To submit your recording, upload it to the Panopto drop box titled "Revising a Company Onboarding Course – KDN1| E005." Once the recording has been uploaded and processed in Panopto's system, retrieve the URL of the recording from Panopto and copy and paste it into the Links option. Upload the remaining task requirements using the Attachments option.
